    Sex and future.

In fact sex in the future, on conveyorbelts with robots in space and lasers.

I never let myself think about issues.

In fact that's when I'm at my most paranoid, I convince myself I'm going to have a heart attack and I keep turning my light on to check that I haven't gone blind in the dark.
Why do we always come here?

    I guess we'll never know.

Yeah! Sex with space aliens! (Are they more "illegal" aliens than the ones form third-world countries????) In that case, future sex with illegal aliens!

That raises interesting questions. When we find alien life, what will boarder patrol be like? We'll have to put that thing across the sky like in Highlander 2.

Yeah, it'd be seriously scary if it would become the mexico situation all over again, only now they have spaceships and blinking, super-resistant alloy sombrero helmets.

I mean, will they even introduce anything new? Like futuristic burritos or a horribly improved version of el chupacabra? Or maybe like... A big friggin spaceship pinata?

I don't always think of the same things, but here's a list of common themes:

    1. If I've had an eventful day, I think back on everything that's happened and keep reliving it until I'm tired of thinking about it.

    2. If recent events remind me of something that happened a long time ago that I haven't thought about in a while, I'll probably reminisce a few times before going to sleep.

    3. Envisioning situations arising where my friends (either from real life or online) are spending time with me, things are pleasant, and I'm free to converse or relax at will. This is surprisingly rare in real life (in fact I've never experienced this personally), even though it is theoretically quite possible. An Internet chat room comes quite close to what I envision, actually. It's probably the elusive real life equivalent of that.

    4. Similar to 3, except that I imagine conversations with book, movie, or video game characters.

    Electric sheep.

Nah, really, I have to distract myself with music or pure exhaustion. I can't think while I go to sleep.

Pretty much the same here. My insomnia has me cowed to the point that I'm afraid to try to sleep unless I'm about to fall over. Right now, I take a small dose of meletonin, and either pop my headphones on with a podcast novel or put my headband reading light on and read until my eyes won't stay open. It works pretty well and doesn't seem to disturb my husband who goes to bed several hours before I can.

If I can't avoid thinking while I'm trying to go to sleep, I've found that thinking about the future is a big no-no. It gets me wound up. Either recalling my day or praying seems to work the best. I'm not such a good pray-er since I either get distracted or fall asleep.
“There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old’s life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs.”

I have a white noise machine, and I'm usually far too tired to think about anything before sleep nowadays.

Like Ivy and Cafe, though, I get insomnia if I think when I lay in bed. The whole chore for me is turning off thinking if it gets started... so I don't even like to let it happen.

“Pleasure to me is wonder—the unexplored, the unexpected, the thing that is hidden and the changeless thing that lurks behind superficial mutability. To trace the remote in the immediate; the eternal in the ephemeral; the past in the present; the infinite in the finite; these are to me the springs of delight and beauty.” ~ H.P. Lovecraft

Yep. Have you tried contemplative prayer? It's sort of like meditation but with a prayer focus. The Taize community in France makes beautiful music based on it, basically they repeat one or two lines over and over. I can send you a CD if you like!
