I'd love to have Primers for my kids, but only if they get real ractors. None of that offline AI for MY precious little snowflakes.

I've read both those books, and only vaguely remember Snowcrash's city like chat program. Don't remember Diamond age's primer.

I think Skype can support conference calls and is still free and works like a regular phone line just on your computer. Someone would just have to host the conference call. I think.
I think the issue they were discussing with Skype was the limit to the number of people at once, i think someone mentioned it's not good for more then 5 maybe 10 people at most.

Vent's not bad but like anything else a bunch of people trying to talk at once doesn't work all that well, you can do it but those with a normal mic and speakers echo everything as they try and talk.

Here are some reasons for why I would not like our Friday night chat to be on ventrillo:

    1. I do not live alone, and would not feel comfortable having the persons I live with hear my conversation.
    2. I prefer silence.. it allows me to think.
    3. I am not much of a talker.

    My rebuttal:

Ventrillo allows for text chat as well as voice conversations.
You can simply use that option instead.

The only valid reasons for not using ventrillo is:
    1. you're using dial-up and have difficulties with the large bandwidth.
    2. you're on a shared computer that prevents you from downloading the program. The file size for ventrillo isn't that large...
    3. you hate ventrillo because it's ventrillo?
