Default Would you rather be pitied or hated?

    The title says it all.

Personally, I would much rather be pitied. Hate is a strong word, but I think I would still rather be pitied than disliked even. At least with pity there's a desire to help and more potential to eventually be liked.

The most important thing for me is to be authentic. So long as I am authentic:

If someone hates me for who I am, that's their issue.

If someone pities me for who I am, when I have no issue with myself, I find that condescending and would rather they hated me as pity suggests I'm the one with the issue. For as long as they pity me they will never recognise that the issue is theirs.

    I hate being pitied.

    This will not end well...
But it will at least be poetic, I suppose...

Hmm... But what if it does end well?
Then I suppose it will be a different sort of poetry, a preferable sort...
A sort I could become accustomed to...

I think it depends on the context and on the people who are hating or pitying.

When people who I don't have to do with or who have totally different views than me hate me, I don't care a lot, it would make me probably just not think highly about them either. When people who are close to me or who share similar views and aims as me, it would bother me if they hate me of course, because it wouldn't match how I think about them.

If people respect me and don't pity me for the person I am but rather for a difficult situation I find myself in, then this is just some kind of emphathy and just shows me that they care about and understand me. But if they pity me for who I am, then this shows something condescending, a lack of respect for my person and something I would take personally and would find rude.

hated, although it might change depending on the situation, since people who hate you are more likely to make your life annoying if you have to be around them.

    Hated.
I like to rock n' roll all night and *part* of every day. I usually have errands... I can only rock from like 1-3.

One could hate and respect you. No one would ever pity and respect a person. The choice is clear for me.
