Default What are your Top 10 cool villains?

Nicodemus' thread about fictional characters you hate made me think it would be fun to have a list of villains you actually love (or at least like).

Come on, admit it ... quite often the villain is more interesting and far cooler than the hero. So who are your favorits?

To get this started and in no particular order:
    - Sideshow Bob
    - Professor Moriarty
    - Patty Hewes
    - Darth Vader
    - Mephisto
    - Jago
    - Mr. Burns
    - Ernst Stavro Blofeld
    - Captain Hook
    - Plankton

I'm not gonna mention Darth Vader, Lord Voldemort, or HAL 9000 because it's too easy.

    1. Mr. Hand, Dark City
    2. The Velociraptors, Jurassic Park (I consider the T-Rex a hero)
    3. Master Control Program, TRON
    4. Hans Gruber, Die Hard
    5. Reverend Kane, Poltergeist II
    6. Scar, The Lion King and Jafar, Aladdin (tie)
    7. Darth Maul, Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace (if George didn't kill him off so soon, then he would've been even more bad-ass than Darth Vader.)
    8. Jack Nicholson's Joker, Batman
    9. CLU, TRON Legacy
    10. Catherine Tramell, Basic Instinct

    1. Count Olaf, from Lemony Snickett's A Series of Unfortunate Events stuffs. Jim Carrey's portrayal of him as an over-the-top, stereotypical, conniving villain was excellent. I think Mr. Burns and Plankton embody this, too. Because of that, they're also great.

    2. Mr. Hands, from the Mr. Bill show. He was outright malicious, yet subtle about it at the same time.

I wish I could find decent YouTube videos of them. All that I could find were terrible remixes of their dialog, parodies, or scenes from their shows set to Avril Lavigne

Villain = antagonist? Because otherwise it may be the most morally objectionable character in a story, which would make the whole idea quite fuzzy.

I consider the villain the antagonist, while a "morally objectionable" character would be an anti-hero if he's a protagonist.

    - Ben Linus from Lost
    - The Master, Madam Kovarian, Weeping Angels and the Silents from Doctor Who
    - Artemis Entreri and Jarlaxle Baenre (I'm still torn about whether or not the latter's a villain) from the R. A. Salvatore books
    - Mr
    - Professor Moriarty
    - The Joker
    - The Hands of Blue from Firefly
    - Sylar from Heroes
    - Hannibal Lecter

A villain (also known in film and literature as the "bad guy", "black hat", or "heavy") is an "evil" character in a story, whether a historical narrative or, especially, a work of fiction. The villain usually is the antagonist, the character who tends to have a negative effect on other characters. A female villain is sometimes called a villainess (often to differentiate her from a male villain). Random House Unabridged Dictionary defines villain as "a cruelly malicious person who is involved in or devoted to wickedness or crime; scoundrel; or a character in a play, novel, or the like, who constitutes an important evil agency in the plot"

    Let's say a hero's antagonist.

    1. Shion Sonozaki - Higurashi when they cry (Depends on if you consider her a villain, I do, at least for one arc)
    2. Accelerator - A certain magical index
    3. Ryouko Asakura - The melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya
    4. Chrona - Soul Eater (Pre-Heel-face turn obviously)

Can't think of many other villains I actually like.

    Dr. Evil
The Cylons from the original Battlestar Galactica
    General Grevious from Star Wars
    Chong Li from "Bloodsport"
    Hans Gruber
O-Ren Ishii and the Crazy 88 (Lucy Liu kicks ass)
    Navajas (Danny Trejo) from "Desperado".

That's all I can think of at this point. I may edit more in later.
