Why are you asking me what?

He was a writer who never wanted to be on the front line, and an idealist.

And yeah, he flaked out on his friends because he was scared shitless. he wasn't trained as a grunt, he was basically there working with intelligence and because he could speak French, and Hanks grabbed him and made him go along on this mission to save Ryan.

And after he flaked out and was devastated over his failure, he realized the captive he let go had rejoined the German army -- so he shot him point-blank and killed him. Apparently he learned his lesson about idealism in war and I don't think he'd flake out again, if he ever decided to hold a gun again. Like I said, he was there working with intelligence, not as a front line gunslinger like everyone else on the squad.

SOOOOO... that makes him much different than "OMG I SO MUCH HATE JAR JAR". Right?

Characters that make me want to destroy something with a sledgehammer (in no particular order):

    1. Slippy, "Star Fox 64"
    2. Peter Griffin, "Family Guy"/Homer Simpson, "The Simpsons"
    3. Scarlet O'Hara, "Gone with the Wind"
    4. Catherine and Heathcliff, "Wuthering Heights"
    5. Ziggy Sobotka, "The Wire" Season 2
    6. That idiot princess from "ICO"
    7. The main character's creepy child in "The Scarlet Letter"/the creepy child in "Looper"
    8. Mindy, "Animaniacs"
    9. Navi, "Legend of Zelda"
    10. Any stupid, unfunny mascot character who doesn't help anything -- sample shows/movies with characters like this include "Scooby-Doo", "Thundercats", "Frozen", "Star Wars: Episode I" (yes, Jar-Jar)

It's one thing for that to be the hero in a dumb popcorn flick, but in Watchmen, where there's a lot of examining and dissecting different morality systems, I can't see how you'd find Rorschach's functional, ideal or in any meaningful way correct (though I understand it's appeal to an understandable desire for strong black and white (see what they did there) morals and a sort of id-based desire for strong, stern and immediate punishment that all people do have to some degree).

I don't hate the character Rorschach: he's interesting and fun to read. But I absolutely hate the ideology he represents.

Well, sometimes I do really just hate him. Which makes sense, since he's extremist, inflexible, homophobic, prude-ish, possibly misogynist, violent, paranoid, nihilistic, rude, inconsiderate, more interested in punishing and hurting people than saving them, incredibly judgmental, sanctimonious, hypocritical, borderline sociopathic and prejudiced.
I relate to him, despite all that. Probably because, as a fellow STJ enneagram 1, I could see myself turning into that sort of person given similarly horrendous circumstances.

    I know his character.

He is still a coward. No scene from any movie makes me rage as much as that one.
