    location, location, location
    no neighbours.
    big gardens

preferably designed by kerry hill, my all time favourite architect.
none of that white coffin box minimalist tackiness.

i looove jeffrey archer's majorcan hideaway home. he named it
    'the writer's block'!!!!!! sooo cute!

i want to build a writing room like this for @JocktheMotie
but you know. somewhere there's snow. and not so bright.

I'm weird in the sense that I don't really care what the house looks like (as long as it looks good, and is big, and I get to design some rooms however I'd like), but my main concern is the property around it.

The property has to have a body of water on it/beside it. A lake, river, or ocean. It has to have a basketball court, a tennis court, a swimming pool, and other sporting amenities. There has to be a small farm on it (subsistence and an orchard, perhaps for commercial purposes, who knows?..maybe a wine orchard?). There has to be a sort of BBQ patio/kitchen somewhere near that body of water, that incorporates the natural elements into it, to make it "one with it's environment". (I'll leave that up to the architects, for the most part..)And lastly, it has to have a vast amount of untouched, unspoiled land, preferably with natural wildlife.

Add a sort of small studio, completely detached from the main house, where I get to do whatever I'd like, and I'm set.

    *Near a golf course.

    That's the dream.

I'm guessing wifey will deal with the house itself.

something cozy with big windows and a good view of something. i like high ceilings, nice kitchens (even though i can't really cook, but i guess if i'm living in my dream house i can afford to pay someone to do that for me), a really nice bath/shower, big back porch, a pool. a big living room with lots of seating.

overly modern houses like the 2 above scare me a little. they look like museums, i can't imagine anyone actually living there.

The plans are already in my mind, ready for retirement and if all goes well, in the next two to three years after my son gets firmly ensconced in campus life! It's not ostentatious, just something simple to match my simple needs away from city life.

When it comes to overall layout, I'm drawn to the following:
    English Country House:

    Center Hall Colonial:

Then the interiors would be kind of a romantic/ neaveux traditional look:

Situated in a countryside/ suburban area.
