    Default Can I Sing?

Okay people, I need to know once and for all if I can sing. Usually I think I'm terrible, but then I hear some of the people who sing in bands and what not, and think maybe I can sing okay after all. I know I don't have an American Idol kind of voice or anything, but am I good enough to not embarrass myself by singing in public?

This will stay up for no more than 24 hours. Please be honest, but if I suck, try to tell me kindly.

EDIT: Link discontinued. THANK YOU, everyone!

Masquerading as a normal person day after day is exhausting.

Yes, you can sing. If you had some training you might be more confident in your own abilities. You're definitely not "William Hung"-ing. Far from it. I'd be quite happy if I could sing as well as you.

Most definitely. Even if your voice might not be cut out for pop music, I could totally see you singing Enya-esque songs or church choir/Renaissance/Medieval music.

Anyone can sing pop. You think pop artists have singing talent? Pop singers are the ones who are auto-tuned in pretty much every song. They have no singing talent.

    WOW, absolutes much?

OK the OP was referring to "American Idol". IMO, I did not think the OP necessarily possessed the right type of voice for "American Idol" style pop........

Yes, you can sing! It's really difficult to sing accappella, so hats off to you.

Too bad the recording was a bit muffled so it was difficult to tell what words you were using, although they might have been gaelic, latin or maybe celtic?

It all depends on what you want to do with your voice. Can you sing? Yes, very well. I think the song you picked was actually a good match for your vocal style. However, if you want to maximize the gift you have for singing you should look into voice lessons. The raw ability is certainly there but in order to harness it and make it do what you will you should be trained.
Thank you for being brave enough to post that sound byte. It reminds me that forum members are more than just avatars I get to pick on and yell at.
