oh my... I'm person #4,701,457,440th person... though I'm sure it'd be a bit more specific if they asked the time and location of my birth

I'm sure that it's not hard to guess what forum member I was born within 24 hours of either

Not any specific number per se, rather any given population should be as large as what can be supported by both an ecosystem and economic system in order to ensure that each life is not downgraded (regarding quality/value). Overpopulation places a strain on resources, both material (food, health care) and soceital (jobs, living accomodations), so the general population in any area shouldn't rise to the point where material and societal sectors are damaged, unless of course they can be adapted to support those people. However, such infrastructures cannot eternally keep up with the population; naturally there must be some limit, or the result will be a great mass of deaths.

And would you suppose that an exponentially increasing population is somehow a good thing?

Wow... can you say population boon?
Yeah I'm creeped out that we were somewhere in the 4 billions apparently in the early 80's, and just thirty years later there's 3 billion more of us.

And that's with birth control and legal abortion in the Western world.

I know, you're more idealist than savage. Knowing that, if it came to you or me hopefully I can rely on you.
