My only idea so far is being a monster or alien ineptly disguised as a human.

Meaning, just wear my regular outfit, but introduce a bunch of little details that look wrong: unnecessary gloves with claws underneath, greenish tinted skin around the eyes and collar, one or two colorless contact lenses, obvious first-timer makeup job and way too much hair wax, inky slime dripping from one ear and staining my shirt, carrying a book on the bus that is clearly not meant for leisurely reading (example: a thesaurus or The Joy of Cooking), whatever.

So much fun to think about, but it seems too specific for others to understand, so I'm looking for better ideas.

But I have read an herbal dictionary a few times in similar situations. I trust that doesn't reflect poorly on my humanity.

I haven't worn a costume in recent years, but the one I would make if I had time (already have a few usable pieces):

I've been called a criminal, a terrorist, and a threat to the known universe. But everything you were told is a lie. The truth is, they've taken our freedom, our home, and our future. The time has come for all humanity to take a stand...

The only one I saw was funny as hell and easy, but I want something a little more wowing.

It was essentially a dude in a sheet, ghost-style, with a big sign saying, "HELLO My name is... Your favorite Game of Thrones Character"
Kantgirl: Just say "I'm feminine and I'll punch anyone who says otherwise!"
Halla74: Think your way through the world. Feel your way through life.

Cimarron: maybe Prpl will be your girl-bud
    prplchknz: i don't like it

A large group of them would make an impression. The Starks alone would be enough.
