If this is a suit you really want, you could try signing up for the store credit card. Usually you get 10% or so off the first purchase, and then you could pay it off over a few months. Just make sure you figure out the interest rate first so you don't wind up paying $600 for your $300 suit :p

Another vote for a charcoal suit. Lest you forget, if you wish to look as optimally corporate drone-like as possible, THE blue shirt.

    YES.

And I see tons of corporate drones in black (with blue shirts of course). So much so that I've started to wonder why they don't just institute corporate uniforms that look like that.

I went to a thrift store yesterday and got a coat, 4 dress shirts, 2 belts, a pair of slacks, 4 or 5 ties and a couple of sweaters (cardigans) for under $40.

In fact, there were many nice looking coats, they just didn't fit me right. But, I'm sure I could have gone to a tailor to get it adjusted if I really wanted to. In fact, I should probably do that. My first "tailored coat"..

Quality stuff too...especially for a thrift store.

The way I see it, if I'm poor I have no business wearing an Armani suit...lol

It was Alfani... Haha. I was wrong when I said Armani.

Got the suit and everything today. It was a lot of money... At least it will come in handy on more than one occasion.

Here's the tie I picked up:

It's more deeper red/maroon than it appears in the photo. It looks kind of bright/blood-like here.

That is a nice tie. A suit is a good investment. Good luck!

I know this is over with now, but for future reference, I just discovered that Overstock.com has suits.
