Sing songs with the text, that's what I do.

Works for me, but I have musical intelligence ...and I'm presuming you might because of the guitar there in your avatar.

I don't really have a problem with my memory, though. What I do have a problem with are details. And math. And the enforced structure of academia.

I tried singing a while ago.

I can't remember if it helped or not.

What kind of material is it? Do you have to memorize entire blocks of text, or the concept of the text, or words and their definitions?

I'm really fond of flash cards. Put words on the front, and the definition on the back... or something similar to that. As a Bio student, there are a lot of names of molecules and enzymes I need to memorize, so I go at it like this.
“Everybody has a secret world inside of them. All of the people of the world, I mean everybody. No matter how dull and boring they are on the outside, inside
them they've all got unimaginable, magnificent, wonderful, stupid, amazing worlds. Not just one world. Hundreds of them. Thousands maybe.” -Neil Gaiman

    Accounting.

I think I'll write the problems on cards.

The name of the procedure on the front, and the problem solved on the back.

I used to rewrite my notes to study for tests, especially in subjects I didn't have a natural aptitude for, or those that required lots of rote memorization. I'd write out everything I thought would be on the test, and the writing seemed to help solidify it. Then I'd go over it, say it aloud, cover it and try to repeat it to myself, etc. Usually I'd do that the night before, work a few hours on it, then go to sleep, get up early and cram it into my head again right before the test.

Sometimes mnemonics worked, and sometimes I'd make up a little song or something.

I guess the best way to memorize is to write the stuff down just keep repeating and repeating and repeating and repeating and repeating.
