A lot of people don't know it's from "Moby Dick".

(Maybe this was pointed out in "The Road"; I never read it or saw the film adaptation.)

See? Other people are talking about the merits of the genre. You're flying off the handle about "the atheist nerd species who seem to pride themselves on rationality and reason".
This was supposed to be a thread for people to talk about why they DON'T LIKE SCIENCE FICTION, not a place for the atheist nerd species to bully those people by calling them less intelligent or closed minded.

FTR, my INTJ math professor actually preferred Perry Mason novels to other American genre fiction (he's Russian), and thought American Westerns were romantic, so my comment about "the atheist nerd species" was clearly a joke...but the part about you guys being fanatically religious was really not a joke at all.

Marm. I'm not even pretending to address the subject of the thread. The people the comment was directed towards got the joke, and it was at no one's expense. It's all good.

So what do you hate more: science fiction, or the fact the people are openly disagreeing with you? It sure seems like the latter.

Of course you're being called closed minded: YOU ARE BEING CLOSED MINDED. People have been probing you with questions and the best answers you've had have been "I just don't like it!"

You yourself opened the thread off with a statement about how most people like science fiction, so what did you expect? You couldn't have honestly expected a crowd of like-minded individuals to flood this thread with affirmation.

About the only thing you've said in this entire thread that I agree with wholeheartedly is that you might as well have said "I hate Mexicans".
