Getting this worked up about science fiction is surely a symptom of taking fiction much more seriously than you actually should be taking real life.
But I know real life; it is the present, the past. The future is less defined, more open-ended, and therefore much more exciting, since I still have a chance to control it. SF is just a mental playground in which to test out ideas and have fun at the same time. Far better than conducting real-time human experimentation -- or at least more efficient, and more ethical.
In science, when human behavior enters the equation, things go nonlinear. That's why Physics is easy and Sociology is hard. -- Neil deGrasse Tyson
I am the objective observer telling you the truth. I have no reason to lie.
I'm an objective observer as well and don't see as so clear cut. I see both sides. Marm, you did overreact. I think you would agree with this. Jenaphor, you're being completely logical and straightforward. Yet you are being insensitive. You continued to push when it was no longer necessary.
Maybe the best thing is to recognize when we are pushing each other person's buttons, apologize, and make amends. It's not that hard.
