Aha! I think I was trying to say this before. Thanks Orangey Also, your use of quotations marks made me giggle.

There are a lot of pseudo-liberals running around (especially at university) who label themselves as such because they think it's the only acceptable thing to be in their particular setting, or they think it's "cool," but they have no more nuanced an understanding of the issues than Michele Bachmann (probably less, actually) and they have (like her) a deep lack of self-reflexivity and critical thinking skills.
    Yep.

I think the question asked and my answer were on different trajectories. I was trying to answer the question - can you tell who has a profound commitment to social and economic justice, gender equality, is a GLBTQ ally, anti-imperialist, anti-racist - or is at least super left leaning to the point where even if their specific views haven't been well established they are getting there? You know, like a budding anarchist? :P Also, aside from poorly thought out views or faking it, people are usually a jumble of different views that don't necessarily "match".

But I get it, we're talking about the nebulous general world of 'left/liberal' and 'right/conservative'.

I really hope you're not serious. Avril Lavigne is probably only "obviously liberal" through virtue of being Canadian, which is automatically liberal compared to the U.S....even Conservative Canadians are like Liberal Americans.

I also don't see Britney Spears as especially Conservative (lolwut?) Spice Girls? Really? You think Victoria Beckham is a great example of Liberal? Why exactly is that?

If you mean people who are fans of these groups, I'll just tell you now that it's considered equally "uncool" by some people (mostly young males, but even my ENFJ sis wants to disown me and my ExFP sister for publicly liking Taylor Swift videos on facebook) to listen to Britney, Avril, or Taylor Swift, and I listen to all of them. When I'm alone. But I also listen to everything from Jackson Browne to Depeche Mode to Nirvana to Crystal Castles, and a whole bunch of other music.

I also know a lot of people who like both Metallica and Nirvana or other bands you've stereotyped as "liberal."

Dude, I even like some Ted Nugent songs. I GREW UP IN THE SOUTH. And like most people who grew up in the South, I listen to rock, country, Southern rock, and all kinds of other music. It is extremely common for young people from the South to like both country and Southern rock and more mainstream rock; and many of these young people are extremely liberal.

Generally the ones who are verrrry Conservative listen to *only* country.

Oh okay. I love musicals, but I usually like really happy lively ones. I've never gotten around to watching Les Mis because it seems more slow and depressing and melodramatic. I could be totally wrong.

BTW whoever posted that the Spice Girls were liberals has got to be joking, they were and are hardline Thatcherite Conservatives. They described, I think was Gerry Halliwell anyway, described Thatcher as the original "spice girl" and fronted for the Conservatives before the Labour win which brought Blair into office, Oasis were invited to a big bash at No. 10 later that year because they had supported the Labour party, although like a lot of other people they supported a party which didnt exist anymore.

Note the second flag behind Obama (probably from his Muslim, Socialist, Kenyan, terrorist army), and also note the sloppiness of the lapel pin. Things like this nearly cost that man the election. Now look at George's lapel pin. Notice how you clearly feel the wind, buffeting that miniature flag pin. It is much more responsible, it shows a reverence for the flag. I think that the manner in which a person utilizes a flag (or flags) in a photograph or video is essential. It practically tells you everything you know. By the way, how many American flags currently exist? I would love to know the answer to this.

Does anybody remember this travesty? This guy is wearing a flag, and I bet 99% of you can identify his political alignment (his name is Abbie Hoffman, I only know this because I've seen Forrest Gump too many times).

I wonder were Hoffman got his American flag shirt, I actually thought the portrayal of him in forrest gump was poor, the portrayal of him in Steal This Movie was priceless though. That's a good movie for its portrayal of the fate of most liberals.

After looking over this thread, I have concluded that liberals have worse hair.
