This makes me very sad. My biggest regret is destroying my oldest friendships before I ever knew what they meant.

I've been guilty of this. I've drifted apart from friends whom I thought seemed like they were no longer interested in me, those who I started to get bored with, or those who simply lived too far away. I think though that I just got discouraged or bored too easily. I wish I had done a better job of trying to keep in touch. We may not be the closest friends now but at least it would be interesting to see where my friends from long ago ended up.

My life's really pretty good in a lot of ways, and my problem was never doing things I regretted, but *not* doing things, and letting chances pass me by. So in that respect, it's an easy answer. Not taking chances at love. One in particular that I've been kicking myself about for the better part of 20 years, off and on.

The worst mistake people make in political arguments is assuming that the other side is not trying to do the right thing. This simple oversight makes productive conversation nearly impossible.
