It ain't my place, I just rent a room here. Make like a tree and leaf!

jk, I'd take the fat cat with me and make sure the room mate is good.

First I would see if I could get to others in my family and wake them up, keeping low to the ground and probably wrapping a bandana I keep near my bed around my face. I'd probably guide my family through the back part of the house, bust out the A/C Unit in the back room and get them to crawl through the window there. If the fire was all over the house, we'd just use the nearest exit.

If I were by myself, I'd probably try to save my portable hard drive since it contains many of our family photos.

If I felt I had time to rush into the house, I'd probably use the water hose to wet myself and the bandana, and rush back in and save as much shit as I could safely before the fire spread to those areas.

We had a house fire in a previous property. i got the kids from out of bed (i had a little person under each arm), ex was nowhere to be seen, got out the back of the property and he's just standing there (wth?) Then i went back in and got the gerbils. I couldn't let them fry .. Luckily it was only in the living room but i didn't have contents insurance at the time.
It's pretty creepy that your ex just went outside and stood there when the house was on fire and there were children and pets still inside.

I am unsure why he acted the way he did. My instincts were get the kids out, then the gerbils, lol.

True- it's hard to predict how people will react in emergencies, including ourselves!

Save the cats by throwing them out of the window! (It's one floor?!)
Though I imagine it'd look like this to the neighbors:

Grab the laptop and my purse.

    ^This.

It depends on the fire and so on.

I have many options for exits.

The only thing of value is the computer.

    The cat.

I live at a fish hatchery. We use 200 million gallons of water per year. I have numerous pumps on trailers, and about 12,000,000 gallons of water in holding ponds.

I'd still call the fire department, but I'd probably have the fire out before they got their boots on.
