-Ensure immediate safety of family members andpossible pets.

-Save the family computer, and perhaps any other things of immediate value and easy access to.

-Have someone call 911 via cell phone.

. . . Now that I think about it, I should probably create a Fire Suitcase, a suitcase filled with several items needed to live, thus if the house ever burns down, I'll just grab that instead.

Wake up roommates, if the stairwell is safe, check on upstairs or downstairs neighbors, otherwise GET OUT OF THERE and call fire department. I don't think I own anything I'd want to risk my life for! I'm imagining it's happening at night while we're sleeping because I think it would be a lot easier to escape/extinguish it before it gets to a dangerous point when everyone's up and about.

I'm in a bachelor apt so it'd be relatively easy to grab stuff

    1)
-grab box o'useful stuff like passport/cheques/birth certificate (near bed)
-grab purse and/or backpack, one of which will almost always have my wallet in it and *usually* both have a designated, easy to reach spot.
-wouldn't bother with laptop since it's old anyway and useless without the cord which would be too slow to unplug/unwind/etc. if I happened to have my netbook at home I'd grab that (I leave the cord at work since the battery life is so great). It occurs to me now that I should keep my external hard drive updated with backups and stored in my useful box o'stuff, not plugged into my computer.
-grab cat, which is hopefully easy in small apt

    2) (if not dressed) -find clothes, or if situation seems especially bad grab bathrobe at least

    3) -find escape route. I'm on third floor so I'd cautiously venture down the stairs, and if safe to open the door, open doors to all roommates (5 rooms) and yell at them. If not safe to open the door, I have a safety ladder thing for the window so I could try to figure that out. It seems kinda complicated though. The worst part will probably be opening the windows since they're old and cranky. worst case I guess, like if I'm going to die, I could kick out the air conditioner and jump after it, but I'd be worried about it falling on someone.

I really need to put together a more useful plan/emergency bag to keep near the bed just in case, especially since my house is a fire hazard (super old, overstressed electrical, and not up to code AT ALL).
    -end of thread-

I'll just grab my Armageddon bag and escape through the window for additional drama.

Grab puppydog and run (easy, b/c she's on the bed with me). Get outside, run around house to roommate's window (opposite side of house), ensure she's out safely. Call 911.

If I could save a guitar or two, I would, but people and puppies are really the only important things to me. I love my laptop, but I can get a new one.

Grab bong, wallet, laptop and clean socks and then jump out the window.
