Interesting response. I can assume... but I'm curious to see what your thoughts are behind it...

Yes, God makes people feel secure because in some religions it gives them an absolute sense of right and wrong, and in all religions it gives one a sense of a higher power having a loving order over things.

When one of my friends committed suicide when I was thirteen, I was horrified, "How can this happen to a Christian? To someone who loves God?" This was my first question, and it made me immediately suspicious of church. My friend was a deeply religious and kind person.

However, at that point I still only questioned church and religion, not the existence of a higher being, per se. The constant feeling that this being was with me made me feel very secure.

Then around the age of 20 or so I had a huge existentialist crisis where I dealt with the reality of there being no god at all, and if there was a god, that god wasn't necessarily going to make my life safer, anyhow. After all, strangers die every day in tsunamis and car accidents, why wouldn't I? At one point I became so terrified with the SHEER RANDOM CHANCE OF EVERYTHING that I developed an anxiety disorder and become agoraphobic. It was entirely due to my shift in perception and my existentialist crisis, because prior to that I'd been quite the dare devil - taking crazy random chances, crashing cars, hanging out at stranger's houses, hitting bigger stronger males who pissed me off, and trying all sorts of risky things. Now that I think about it, this very well could have been the emergence of crazy, paranoid emergent inferior Ni: suddenly having a horrendous perspective shift and becoming a nut case because of it. *takes note that I might be ESFP, after all*

Of course, I adjusted, and I no longer need the mythos of my childhood to make me feel secure. Some people aren't capable of this, and I really don't hold it against them at all, if I really think about it. I just get deeply disgusted with extremist religion, especially within the Big Three of Christianity, Judaism, and Islam.

Wars seem to be the horrifying opposite of security, but on some primitive level I'm sure it does make people feel secure that my dad can beat up your dad.

I'm no pacifist myself, I mean after learning about wars in history I became sharply aware of how important it is to fight back, it's a necessary evil.

Some people are just stupidly patriotic, though, I'm not sure what to do about that. Reason has to come into play somewhere.
