When it comes to subjects I enjoy, I like to have good discussions.
When it comes to subjects I don't care too much about, I love to argue.

I guess I spoke for everyone.

I enjoy discussion too. Love that.

When/if it turns to debate then I'm more picky about it and more likely to observe from afar. It can be interesting sometimes observing esp if I'm confused about the topic. I guess it's just a different way to gather info for me.

When people outright fight or argue (which is different from debate to me) it can be funny for a minute or two but eventually I become really uncomfortable. Like somebody's going to get hurt. *worries*

When people who seem emotionally numb argue I don't worry about them. They don't ever like physical fighting either so there's nothing to worry about.

Argument is lovely when it is other than for the sake of argument.

    When I'm bored.

And I wouldn't call it arguing. When I think of arguing, I imagine one or both parties taking the discussion too seriously and getting heated. It's less fun when people start getting all emotional.
I got my smile from the sunshine,
I got my tears from the rain.
I learned to dance when I saw a tiger prance,
And a peacock taught me to be vain.
A little owl in a tree so high,
He taught me how to wink my eye.
I learned to bill and coo from a turtledove,
And a grizzly bear taught me how to hug.
But the guy that lived two caves from me,
He taught me how to love.

that being said, I can't arguing with people who try to bring feelings and "shoulds" into things. the optimum is when you are trying to reach a mutual conclusion with an intelligent person but you keep exchanging/considering information until one of you is convinced that the other person's solution is better (my INTJ friend and I do this several hours a day sometimes, even though he ends up being right 70% of the time, which is okay with me because)
the idea of "trying to be right" is just stupid. if the other person's view is superior and you adopt it, than you're right now too.

only when I need to put a filthy invalid in his place

that's probably the closest to how i feel, though "filthy invalid" is, perhaps, a little strong.

i only really debate when i feel there's a need to correct misconceptions and protect people from misinformation. it's unpleasant, but satisfying.
