Seriously, though, I have open "on-line" status over at PersN, and JTG sometimes uses it to watch what I'm doing, which doesn't bother me at all. He'll be like "right now you're doing this and this" and it's kind of funny.
On the other hand, I'm on here so much and there's so many people here that I don't...I really don't know why I'm on private actually...but I am and I have no inclination to turn it back to public, despite my enormous post count. LOL.
Usually the longer I'm on a site, and the more people I talk to, the more and more I increase privacy to be limited to friends, or to nobody.

Also, when you see 'offline' people posting, it defeats the purpose anyway.
When I post, then obviously people know I've been online. But sometimes I'm online and don't post, or sometimes I post on certain threads and just read others, or sometimes I post on a thread and read subsequent responses later without replying right away. So no, it doesn't defeat the purpose. The purpose isn't to pretend I'm never online. The purpose is to be able to read stuff here without people seeing that I'm reading and not replying. This may well be my own brand of paranoia here, but I often imagine them seeing that I'm reading something and wondering why I'm not responding.
