Thanks all for your thoughts. I find it ironic I haven't been quoted once in my thread!

Yes, it could be fuel when things get hot between posters - I suspect it will make it harder for some people to disengage.

Yes, some people do but it also depends on context. We see evidence of emotional response to challenge all over the forum, don't you think?

Curious ... how do you see them as redundant? Do you re-check threads anyway?

You check to see where you were quoted? I guess this will be a time-saver then!

@ bold: two people antagonizing each other make sure to quote each other, that way you always know that there's more fuel ... I think it could amp up hostility sometimes.

I just hope there's a feature that erases or somehow controls the looooong list of quotes on the user cp page.

EDIT: Ooops. Just now noticed that Jenaphor already answered that question.
Yes, it does have a potentially useful social benefit.

Never used that feature myself. Another vote for useful timesaver!

and i love the new quote system!! very good for those of us who have trouble remembering where we posted
Yes, in threads that have been resurrected too, you could quote someone you want to re-engage in the topic and they'll be notified. And conversation ensues!

The self-discipline aspect might be a challenge. When you consciously leave a thread, you can set it out of your mind. Bt to see the notifications all the time, and not click on them to see what someone has responded to, more of a challenge, me thinks.

    Abiding! You've now been quoted.

Yes, we do see emotional responses. We also see more clinical responses.

Of course. That's why it's redundant. I know what threads I'm in and I participate because of the subject matter, not because someone quotes me.
