Default Talk With Ginkgo Until Your Fingers Bleed!

Very bored; it's hot as Justin Bieber outside, so I'm not going out there right now. Interact with me! Ask questions! Comment! Post embarrassing pictures of yourself being molested in Vegas! I will get to you as soon as possible, or possibly not at all!

I changed my username for the following reasons

    - Security purposes
    - I felt I had outgrown 'Mystic Tater'; it no longer felt relevant
    - I was inspired by Goethe's poem, written to his love interest

    Ginkgo biloba

This tree’s leaf which here the East
    In my garden propagates,
On its secret sense we feast,
    Such as sages elevates.

Is it one but being single
Which as same itself divides ?
Are there two which choose to mingle,
So that one each other hides ?

As the answer to such question
    I’ve found a sense that’s true:
Is it not my songs’s suggestion
That I’m one and also two ?

    Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
AD 1815 - Love Poem to
    Marianne von Willemer

The theme is pretty simple: one in double. It's a sort of paradox. Ginkgo biloba is also paradoxical in that it's ancient - a living fossil.

You know, I feel like I'm not as well versed in philosophy as I would like to be. I've read about German Idealism, Postmodernism, Modernism, Existentialism, Medieval thought, Determinism, Libertarianism, and I suppose you could consider Jungian and Freudian psychoanalysis as philosophies of the mind. I've done the most research on Jung; he and William James are some of my favorite thinkers. Jung refers to an extensive tree of philosophies in his writing, so I had to attain some level of understanding before I could comprehend what the hell he was talking about. I hope that answers your question.

Hmm, interesting. Besides Jung and James, who else are you interested in?
I've been reading a bit of postmodernism lately, but of course, as you indicated about yourself, I don't think I know too much of it, there's just too much to claim something like that.

Postmodernism is basically the philosophy that there is no universal truth, and that grand narratives such as the Communist Manifesto, the Bible, and the Koran should be treated with suspicion. There's not much else to say about it, but ,Martin Heidegger, Jacques Derrida, Michel Foucault, and Jean-François Lyotard are all important names to consider. The consequences of postmodernity have been good, bad, but ultimately interesting in politics, pop culture, science, art, and even architecture.

I like Kant and Thomas Aquinas. I think they were both extremely respectable.

    To make you ask questions.

I currently have my back turned to philosophy because philosophers tend to be chronic masturbators of the highest caliber.

"Respectable" is a dull word; do you believe it does them justice?
