    Smile Your favourite fairytle/myth/legend...

I recently obtained a copy of the complete fairy tales collected from the Grimms brothers, and reading one story a day...I'm not so sure about my favourites, but surely you have your own!
“To explain all nature is too difficult a task for any one man or even for any one age. 'Tis much better to do a little with certainty, & leave the rest for others that come after you, than to explain all things by conjecture without making sure of any thing.”—Statement from unpublished notes for the Preface to the Opticks (1704) by Newton.

What do you think about me? And for the darker side, here.

I remember when I was little and had that book I repeatedly read "Snow White and Rose Red" and "Hansel and Gretel" and "Rumplestiltskin" and "The Fox and the Geese."

I also really liked "The Princess and the Pea" and the "The Ugly Duckling" but those aren't Grimm's, they're Hans Christian Anderson.

Additionally, I think Cinderella was done really well as an adult story in Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister by Geoffrey Maguire. I also like his re-telling of "Snow White," which is called Mirror, Mirror. I'm a huge fan of Snow White in almost every form.

I have quite a few favorites, not only limited to the Grimm's Fairy Tales, but many of them based off of ballets and such.

Of fairy tales: Sleeping Beauty, Snow White, Beauty and the Beast, The Firebird (Russian fairytale), Alice in Wonderland (kind of a fairytale), Thumbelina.

Legends: Rip Van Winkle, The Legend of Sleepy Hollow

    Myths: Persephone

The viking myth of the Yggdrasil is something I like very much. As a story it isn't much, but as an idea. The tree that holds the world.

Oh, and the Prophesy of the Seeress from the Poetic Edda!

Beauty and the Beast, Swan Brothers...

I love fairy-tails :P with people turned into animals - for me they represent our more emotional/ raw nature.

I love Angela Carters' interpretations of the tales <3 <3.

She had that brilliant quote about the difference between English wood and Eastern forest - so moving. But I can't find it in English .
