Being healthy, free of most responsibilities, and able to do pretty much whatever I want really is the pits.

How could anyone want to possibly go back to their youth?

    (where is the sarcasm font?)

that's only true if you're a young person who already has enough money to do fun stuff. traveling the world, going shopping frequently, developing a taste for wine, having a comfortable, aesthetically pleasing living space, island hopping, taking up a martial art, eating out frequently and getting first class treatment are not things that most young people can afford. most peopl think college is the best time of their lives because they can get drunk, party and get away with being extremely stupid and immature. I find none of these things entertaining, especially if the people I'm with are classless imbeciles who make me want to shoot myself in the foot.

no, that's the thing. I'm actually very well off for people my age. my parents are paying for college. I don't feel sorry for myself at all, I'm just frustrated because I have virtually no real power and it makes me kinda uncomfortable having to rely on people generosity and guidance

So, get a part-time job. Plus, you don't have to rely on their guidance - just fake some interest and then do your thing. Besides, doing most of the things you mention in your list isn't really that expensive...at least here, dunno if the US has different standards.

    @ elfboy

Maybe I just lead a charmed life.

I'm not nearly the partier I used to be in college, but even then I wasn't that out of control.

These days a good glass of Bourbon and some live blue's or jazz make me just as happy as any Italian vista ever has.

I always wondered why people assume with those things that they are the same person disregardless whether they are old or young

"The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence".

Instead of lamenting the cons, embrace the pros. You are young and full of energy, vigor and stamina. You have a road ahead of you that stretches further ahead than behind, full of possibilities. some that will never return. And since everything has pros and cons, and I mean everything, I certainly can empathize with some of the challenges you present. However ... you are at the beginning - it's an exciting place to be. Don't overlay it too much with pessimism - embrace optimism.

That is all. Carry on with living ...

I intend to have MORE vigor and energy when I'm older, not less. btw, I'm not an overly pessimistic person, it's just when I see something I find frustrating (such as being too young to have any real power) I point it out
