this is just a theory, but it seems that whether one would rather be liked or respected has a loose correlation with age
    toddler: liked
child: respected (after all, who wants to be treated like their age when they're 7?)
teenager: liked (the stereotypical teenager is willing to put up with a lot of shit from their friends)
    college: respected
    career age: respected
old: liked (it seems like lots of old people tried hard to get respect when they were younger, but then they get old and lonely and think "I don't friggin care anyone, I just want someone to spend time with me and give me a hug")

I guess respected, because that would make it easier to respect myself and be at ease with my conscience, etc. But ooohhhh, this is a tough one for me because I really hate it when people dislike me. I have a bit too much of a need to be liked.

I actually think I'm pretty good at being respected, but sometimes the interpersonal relationships go haywire anyway!

Like. Respect is OK, but doesn't lead in many places I care to build relationships around. There's always a vague sense of "OK.. now what?" about it. I don't know where to carry it, other than something professional or formal. While like entails friendship, and many directions and goals.

Hard question. I'll just have to work twice as hard to get both, I suppose

an understandable response from an ENTJ. most ENTJs are likely to have an easy time getting respect but a tougher time getting liked

I don't think it's type related. Most people go through this..

Take the average person's work life, for instance, where your capabilities are appreciated or promoted, but each day, you may go home not even knowing that much about your coworkers or employers. There's no connection or friendships being cultivated. Some environments may even encourage this.. work is not a place for friendships, by some standards. You'd be considered fortunate if you had greater bonds beyond duty. Those are the kind of jobs that people find difficult to leave.

I agree for the most part, that's essentially what I was talking about in this post:

    toddler: liked
child: respected (after all, who wants to be treated like their age when they're 7?)

in the case of TJs though, I think getting respect is probably easier for them than being liked
