Default If you could choose something to represent yourself...

Or at least a part of yourself, what would it be?

Symbols, pictures, songs, poems, quotes, videos, role models, anything which can accurately describe an aspect of yourself to outsiders.

Really curious. Post as many times as you like!

I posted this also in the Poems thread, but it bears posting here. It is by a World War II poet who died at 24 in the war. Certainly his life was very different from mine, but all I know is that I read two poems by him and was so startled by the shock of recognition I felt that it frightened me a bit. There is a lot of me in the poem below.

I think it has to do with perception, and seeing differently from "the others". This seems to have been a common theme in the poetry of Keith Douglas. It is something I really relate to.

    --------------------------------
    Desert Flowers (by Keith Douglas)

Living in a wide landscape are the flowers --
Rosenberg I only repeat what you were saying --
the shell and the hawk every hour
are slaying men and jerboas, slaying

the mind: but the body can fill
the hungry flowers and the dogs who cry words
at nights, the most hostile things of all.
But that is not new. Each time the night discards

draperies on the eyes and leaves the mind awake
I look each side of the door of sleep
for the little coin it will take
to buy the secret I shall not keep.

I see men as trees suffering
or confound the detail and the horizon.
Lay the coin on my tongue and I will sing
of what the others never set eyes on.

I was stricken the first time I saw this eye made by M.C.Escher. It has remained with me, somehere in the background ever since. It's not a coincidence that it was the first thing that came to mind when I read the OP.

This is a political creedo which I found interesting once and comes close to my own ideas, although I'm not an athiest, I'm also not a firm believe in council communism either but it was good to read a socialist/communist track which considered consumers aswell as producers:
