    Default Do you follow development in topics you once studied?

    For instance if you studied psychology or sociology at university do you follow developments in those topics once you've finished university?

    I suppose its different if you have a studied a technical topic which you get further training and development in when you're qualified and gone on to work in that field.

    What about if your topics were more academic, do you lose interest once you have your qualifications and move on?

    Not really or only occasionally. I find it difficult to get rid of the disgust I've developed towards the subjects during school and it usually happens with each and every one of them. It might fade over time or I'll just be selective about it. I studied sociology about 8-9 years ago, I think it'll be a few years until I could bring myself to read an academic article on that again. Sometimes when I'm in a better mood and stumble upon something that piques my interest, I'll read it, but more often than not I'll avoid it and turn to other topics of interest. Now, I don't get that feeling with things I've discovered on my own, they're not tainted with the pressure and obligation I've felt towards subjects I've had to study in school.

    Yes, for the most part.

    I've dreamt in my life dreams that have stayed with me ever after, and changed my ideas;
    they've gone through and through me, like wine through water, and altered the colour of my mind.

    If I'm interested in them, yes. If not, no. I've shelved almost my entire undergraduate degree because I'm not particularly interested in the subject matter anymore.

    My interests vary over time, though, and so I might become interested in something I studied years ago and haven't touched since.

    Work related stuff only. (I have to keep up on that.) Sometimes I keep up on work/ general field related stuff that I don't necissarily have to keep up on, but will make me more well rounded/ better at work.

    I pursue whatever interests me, regardless of academia. I study stuff outside my training that I enjoy, I stop studying stuff in my field that I don't need and am not interested in.

    “Pleasure to me is wonder—the unexplored, the unexpected, the thing that is hidden and the changeless thing that lurks behind superficial mutability. To trace the remote in the immediate; the eternal in the ephemeral; the past in the present; the infinite in the finite; these are to me the springs of delight and beauty.” ~ H.P. Lovecraft
