Don't know; that's the point of the thread isn't it --to see what comes of the attempt?

The way I understood it was the other thread was about what women enjoy about being women, and this thread was about how women signified or delineated the female experience as a subcategory of the human experience (i.e. in contrast to the male experience).

    It's tough.

    Such vapid verbosity.

    Smile who needs a hubby?

i think the concept of "woman" evolves.

i feel we are a "new breed" of woman in-the-making. we don't have to Take-Care-of-Them, we can come and go as we please, we can eat what we like, we are not vulnerable to someone else's moods.

it depends, if we can take advantage of it. or else, we may be taken advantage of.

Certain developing countries and cultures are still getting the hang of the whole "blurred gender roles" thing. In those countries, women are socially 'allowed' to have careers, but are simultaneously still supposed to be subservient to the man and to take care of the children, housework, and cooking. So, during this transition period, we end up with a huge imbalance in favor of the man. This is exacerbated by the fact that the capability for a woman to stand on her own two feet is pretty threatening to the man's status--and so he gets pretty reactionary about it as well. But, hopefully, this zeitgeist will break soon, and women in these countries will fully gain their 'independence.'

source: vast amounts of pretty close second-hand experience

As Lien says, we've got a "new breed" of woman being unleashed. The fact that many cultures are headed that way seems to me to indicate that the "meaning of being a woman" is not about subservience or whatever had been dictated by traditional gender roles.

I've told you what you're not.. but, as a man, I hesitate to tell you what you are

    She's right, ya know.

My genitalia gives me no more significance as a person other than the fact that I can produce more people with said genitalia.

    There is no additional meaning.

Hold up. How many of you make a distinction between gender and biological sex? Because if you do, then you can't sidestep the question of what it means to be of the female gender by referring to your genitalia.
