Love cats and dogs. They're both good company. But of course, you get poorly socialised pets of either type which speaks more about their owners than the pets themselves although certain breeds have genetic traits that can lean towards bad behaviour, so it's up to their humans to work harder at this aspect of socialisation.
My cat is needy. He's more like a dog in many ways but one that displays alpha behaviour. And yet, he understands a limited set of voice commands including doing tricks. He's very friendly towards accepted strangers but he's also a guard cat when it comes to unaccepted strangers by growling at them. Crossing the door threshold with me present, appears to be his dividing line between accepted and unaccepted. Show him anything once that he finds of interest and he never forgets. Wicked smart, sweet but demanding. Very much his breed standard.
