I definitely do.. I started when I was 15, keeping a dagger on my night stand.

When I turned 16, I received a taser for my birthday that I kept on the opposite side of my bed.

When I returned from Iraq, I shuffled pre-existing weaponry around to make it more accessible and efficient.

When Hurricane Ike hit and my father and I were taking shifts watching our and the neighbors' houses, I did the same with the house.

When I was almost mugged, I did the same for my vehicle.

For people who call it paranoia, they live in nicer areas and times.

I'm surprised that so many people do -- even when I lived in a not-so-nice part of town, it never occurred to me.

I picked up the habit when I was 17, lived by myself, and had a psycho ex boyfriend, who knew how to open locked windows and doors.

Some things just kind of stick with you.

I don't care if you have a weapon by your bed, if you feel you need one than you should have one, even if you never get attacked it's nice to have a piece of mind. The first time after my parents were married and my dad was away over night my mom took an oyster knife with her to bed.
    In no likes experiment.

    that is all

i dunno what else to say so

I have my great powerful muscles. Meh. My family's rather well-known in this community, plus we don't get as much vandalism as do a few other communities I know - so we're unlikely to get any trouble.

Once I get my own place, and specifically if I move out of the District, I plan on turning my Bushmaster 14.5 in. Carbine:

    into something like this:

    for home defense.

I still don't own a handgun and I've been wanting one for a long time. Luckily I live in a nice part of the city and don't ever fear for my safety here. In general, Seattle doesn't put me on edge really.

I keep an old 16 gauge under my bed, unloaded... I would only be able to scare someone with it. I wouldn't shoot anyone.
