What I'm trying to say is that we each have good and bad in us, but it's which side we choose to act on. But who decides what's good or bad? I can't think of anything else but the law.

It is highly improbable that you've never had vengeful or sadistic thoughts you've wished to commit against others who may have wronged you in some way. That is human, too, and even if it's something you're not proud of, I have a hard time believing that anyone has never thought about it at one point or another, even on a subconscious level.

of course i've had those thoughts. but it's certainly not fear of the law that keeps me from acting on them. it's the desire to be a good person.

(holy crap i'm NFing it up on this thread)

I have a feeling that it's the law that shapes these desires. I mean, the law is what defines what's good and what's bad, be it the law of your family, the law of your country, or the law of your religion.

But to truly consider rape or murder because the law will not stand in the way is what separates the brutes from the civilized..

But doesn't civilization begin when laws are made?

All decisions face some problems regarding subjectivity, we can't go getting rid of every law now can we? You have to try to be as objective as possible, hence my point about using neuro-analysis to single out the proper targets.
The field is still wide open to corruption, of course. That's why I'm not in favor of it. It's really more of an ideal thought.

Tell me dissonance, should all of our American soldiers go to jail?
They are killing people after all.
    Go to sleep, iguana.

So you think before there were laws that every single human being went on killing sprees and not one of them cared at all for another single one?

Even when the weren't set laws, unspoke rules came out of communal responsibility. Our own evolution would have been seriously impeded if trying be nice or even just trying to be popular weren't aspects of people.
Why do we always come here?

    I guess we'll never know.

It's like a kind of torture,
To have to watch this show.
