    When confronted with either complex, or entirely novel material/circumstances, if one displays an acute knowledge in knowing that they don't know what "it" is, or how "it" works, that knowledge, imo, is a direct result and reflection of their heightened level of consciousness, i.e. they are actively registering/categorizing what's known vs. unknown, familiar vs. foreign, and by accepting/realizing that something is unknown to them, in effect they are expanding the limits of their reality by incorporating within it the existence of something previously unknown, or uncharted.
