My bad. You're right - the closest star to us is Proxima Centauri.

No they weren't. Briton Frank Whittle developed the first turbojet engine years before. German Hans von Ohain developed his own design and patented it six years after Whittle.

Neither the British Air Ministry nor the Nazis' were convinced that jet engines would be feasible. The Nazis ended up producing a jet-powered aircraft first because Ernst Heinkel was convinced von Ohain's engine would work, and he financed its development himself. Only after Heinkel demonstrated the working He 280 prototype to the government did they seriously pursue jet engines. The British were convinced to pursue jet engines by Whittle and the Gloster Aircraft Company around the same time.

In the end Heinkel's design was passed over for the Messerschmitt Me 262, which went into production a only couple months before the Gloster Meteor.

Red Bull is banned in France in Denmark...didn't know that, and it doesn't make much sense, imo.

It was banned in France, Denmark and Norway. Not anymore. Red Bull made a different formula for those markets (or at least for the French market) that did not contain taurine (which is where Red Bull gets its name; Taurus, Bull...). The French were concerned about the side effects of taurine, but couldn't conclusively prove anything so the ban was lifted.

No one has proven taurine has any appreciable effects, bad or not.

In a similar vein Smirnoff Ice, Mike's Hard Lemonade and the like have different recipes in different countries. In the United States they're made with malt liquor; in most other countries they're made with vodka. Similarly Bacardi's pre-mixed drinks ('Breezer'?) are made with Bacardi rum in most countries, but malt liquor in the US.

They also tend to be only about 5% abv in the US but stronger in other countries (~7% in Canada, anyway).

Correction: Proxima Centauri is the closest star to us - after the Sun.

My country has been occupied by the Romans, half by Ottomans and half by Austro Hungarians, Germans, and Russians. And actually a part of it (Moldavia) is still occupied by a Russian communist government.

Marilyn Monroe's birth name was Norma Jeane Mortenson. She had it legally changed to Marilyn Monroe in 1956.

John Wayne's real name was Marion Morrison.

    Cary Grant's was Archibald Leach.

    Peter Lorre's was Laszlo Lowenstein.

Sonny Bono's first name was actually Salvatore. Cher's name is Cherilyn Sarkisian.

Chevy Chase's first name is really Cornelius.

Telly Savalas' first name was Aristotle.

Martin Sheen's name is Ramon Estevez. Similarly his son Charlie's name is really Carlos. (Obviously brother Emilio kept his name.)

Michael Caine's name is Maurice Micklewhite.

Doris Day's name was actually Doris Kappelhoff.

Poppy Montgomery's name is actually Poppy Petal Ema Elizabeth Deveraux Donahue (Montgomery is her mother's maiden name). Her sisters are named Rosie, Daisy, Lily and Marigold. Her brother is named Jethro Tull.

Vin Diesel's name is Mark Vincent.

Fisher Stevens' name is actually Steven Fisher.

Michael Keaton's name is Michael Douglas, but he adopted the stage name 'Keaton' for obvious reasons. He chose Keaton after Diane Keaton, at random. Coincidentally Keaton is not her name either, she's actually Diane Hall.

The 'J' in Michael J. Fox doesn't stand for anything. Fox added a middle initial because there was already a Michael Fox registered with the Screen Actors Guild. His real middle name is Andrew, but he thought Michael A. Fox sounded a little hokey ('a fox'...). He picked J in homage to character actor Michael J. Pollard.

Newspaper advice columnists Ann Landers and 'Dear' Abby were identical twin sisters; Esther Pauline Friedman ('Ann') and Pauline Esther Friedman ('Abby'). Supposedly their relationship was very acrimonious.
