    2) is my natural state (but I have to get up early for work so it's hard to indulge...)

I usually go to bed at 2 AM, unless I have to get up before 8:00. When I am able to sleep in I rarely sleep past noon.

Five years ago I'd easily have put myself in group 2... but these days I don't really stay up late anymore. I have to get up pretty early for work, and as I get older I find that I have trouble sleeping if I'm not pretty strict about maintaining a pretty strict schedule (yeah, not fun ). So since I can't really sleep in much anymore, I tend to go to bed at around 11 and get up by 8 on the weekends, 6-6:30 during the week. But I'm definitely more alert in the evenings. So... type 2 by nature, type 1 by necessity?

I go to bed late and wake up early.

Late to bed, late to rise.
I feel most alert late in the day...usually after 6:00 p.m. but most often not until after 8:00 p.m.

Early riser. Not particularly early or late sleeper. I go to bed between 11:30 p.m. and 1:30 a.m., usually.
I envy people who can sleep late. I almost always awake before 8, even when I go bed at 3. It's annoying because I can't usually make my self sleep later.
