I think a lot of people are still misinterpreting Oberon's point, though. Not being stoned at work isn't the same as never smoking pot at all. Successful professionals who smoke do so on their own time, not on company time.

Yeah, but it has kind of shifted focus into the morality of weed in general.
I mean I didn't start talking about weed and occupations.. did I?

You did seem to misunderstand what Oberon was saying about weed and occupations.

Except that I know many successful professionals who are stoned while on the clock..
I know many people who if they didn't tell you they smoked pot, you would never know.

To me it's like saying.. if you have wine at lunch you are going to mess your whole life up and never be successful. Yet the pub I work in is close to the courthouse and city hall.. and It is full of lawyers, other court officials and politicians daily, who drink during lunch hour.

One has just been successfully smeared by the media and one is considered acceptable.
It's manipulation and distortion of truth.

What sorts of jobs do these successful professionals who regularly get stoned "on the clock" do?

Is it substance abuse? Before, you seemed to be defending smoking on the job as a legitimate choice. You're a bit of a moving target here.

head of debt reconstruction for an international bank.
regional head of management consulting company.
chief creative officer of advertising company.
    partner at a law firm.
    programmers.

it's not limited to the type of job... getting stoned on the clock.
some people just perform better when stoned. there's always
a time and place to do these things. some people like being
stoned when doing day to day tasks. some like it when they're
doing major presentations / closing deals.

some companies just turn a blind eye to what their employees do.
they don't give a shit as long as they're performing.
    people can be replaced.

some industries are more tolerant than others.
every normal man must be tempted, at times,
to spit on his hands, hoist the black flag,
    and begin slitting throats.

It was Beargryllz who inserted the word "menial" into the discussion.

And yeah, I think if a person's really got it together they're not stoned at work. Of course, that's just the way I roll, so if you think different you're welcome to.
