(ho-hum...). It has not ever interested me which is probably not a helpful thing from a career perspective. Maybe it's an Fe thing. I can see a great deal of practical value from it - not to mention it being fun as you described if it's something you enjoy. When I go into a room, I want to talk to the person who is the most interesting, who has the intensity or the juice, not the one who has the most influence. I'll get a rapid sense of the power structure and where it lies but I would seek to co-exist and not suck up to it. You see the brown nosing sort of behavior a lot in business and it somewhat annoys me.
Is it a Fe thing? Funny I was wondering what cognitive functions it would correspond most strongly too when I read Fidelia's response.

I've thought about that, but my ESTJ ex bf was extremely aware of making political connections. My ENTJ uncle is also a master at that in a business/political sense. I suppose that Fe could be used in that regard, but at least the NiFe version doesn't seem to put that much priority on it in my experience.

It was actually only after we broke up that I realized how much impact his emphasis on that had on his social standing and that if I wanted to further certain causes that were important to me, I might have to start paying more attention than I naturally would.

Good points. ExTJs are very good at this, they're Fi (not Fe) users and it's their 4th function. What you had described was a fascination with understanding the dynamics which is likely different than a Te dom, who would be simply focused on applying the information.

Anyway, it hit a nerve and I probably over-reacted with my response.
