The button should be destroyed. Since it is not selective enough and the last thing we need is that some idiot presses the button.
I would go with "survival of the fittest" over "simple gambling" any day.

A button that says it teleports everything but you, would be funny.

Like, teleporting earth to where the sun is and the sun to where the earth is, universe mirroring dead center between earth and the sun.

And the button and the buttonpresser staying in their relative position in space.

I´m afraid that no button can be destroyed that way.

The number of people here who would, in one moment, leap three orders of magnitude past Stalin, Hitler, Mao Tse-Tung, Pol Pot, Lenin, all the petty dictators of Africa and all the vicious potentates of ancient history to become instantly the greatest murderer the world has ever known... it floors me.

And then there are those who defend the idea on the basis of population control because, you know, if we have to many people that'll mess up the world, and we don't want that because that would be bad for people...

...so let's just kill 'em now and get it out of the way...

    ...it's beyond belief.

Isn't there one of you who can see the Colonel Kurtz in yourself?

This thread is a GREAT place to study categorical assumptions, right across the spectrum...

    Probably.

But maybe if it is on a thin enough wall you can come from the other side and destroy the mechanism behind it.

Or you can try with explosives . But that would be pure gambling.
Maybe if you try with an acid or extreme temperature you will have a better chance.

    Just saying.

I'd push it. As someone already pointed out, there's no guarantee it'll actually do anything.
