I thought it would be interesting to list our favourites painters and see how personality can affect (or not) our preference in visual arts.
Feel free to add pictures of the paintings that particularly speak to you and explain.

    Here's my list:

    Pieter Brueghel (the Elder)

    Albert Edelfelt

My favourite paintings are generally sober Baroque "scènes de genre" and pictures associated with Realism, works that honestly depict ordinary people in their natural environment, making their daily lives just as valuable and honorable as those of important figures.
You have several of my favourites and somehow I'm not surprised...but I am so blown away that you like Albert Edelfelt, I didn't think he was much known outside Finland/Sweden. My mom is from Finland and they have some extraordinary artists.

From your list, I also love Breughel, Vermeer, Waterhouse and the Group of Seven painters.

My other main favourites are Turner, Caravaggio, Rembrandt, Burne-Jones, and a great Finnish painter named Akseli Gallen-Kallela - amazing, amazing.

I don't have time right now but might post some links if I get a chance later.

I'm not much for painters, except good wildlife painters. Specifically Nico Bulders earlier work. Not his fantasy fairy crap, and I'm not much for african wildlife either, which he seems to focus on lately.

These are the ones I like.

I'm so glad! I think he is awesome, and undeservedly not that well known, unless you're really into European painters. He did a lot of different styles too and extraordinarily well.

My favorites are Salvador Dali and H.R. Giger as they're just easy to imagine the world they portray. Whenever I look at pieces of art, I wonder what it would be like to be inside of the world the artist has created. Thats why I like these paintings so much, they let your imagination run with them a bit.

Btw if you have any interest in mythology/fantasy, you should look up the paintings he did based on the Kalevala, the Finnish national mythology. Those are extraordinary, though I do like the scenes of peasant life you picked out as well.
