Sleep, yes, that is a good one, especially if what has got me down is something I'm not able to change or overcome in an obvious manner, I think Jung was right about dreams, the psyche tries to keep in equilibrium, if it cant stabilise consciously it will unconsciously, in dreams. Probably why people dream about killing the boss or flying away.

Helping others can be the boon to help yourself too, I've found that helping others can be therapeutic to me myself, yes, yes, I know, it means I'm in a kind of neurotic feedback loop.

That puppy has made me completely forget what I was going to say. Such a sad little guy, he's the opposite of what cheers you up

Ah, right. Good food cheers me up. And not like the "burying your face in a cake because you're depressed" thing. A Chinese chicken salad perked me up tonight.

Sunshine is an instant cure usually. I'm a plant.

A hug which is hard because I don't normally allow huggage.

Sometimes music, but then again sometimes music can do the opposite and make the situation worse.

Shopping. I have developed a terrible habit of impulse buying when I'm feeling down.

I'm British, a cup of tea works too lol.

Weathergirl: District 38 is sunny. Slight rock showers this morning. Chance of rock showers into the afternoon—20 percent. District 39 is cloudy. Chance of rock showers this afternoon—10 percent.
Edward: Bebop here here! Alright woo hoo!
Weathergirl: Chance of rock showers today upgraded to 90 percent.
    Edward: Really.

Awww, yes, it is nearly impossible to be sad around puppies (unless they're sick, or something ). This little guy looks more mischievous/guilty to me than sad. And he's suuuuper cute! Look at those big ears!

    EDIT:
He's almost as cute as my dog was when he was a baby :

Sleep, and doing well in something that I care about.
Having a lack of either can bring me down really fast.

Taking my mind off whatever is bothering me. Needs to be active and out of the house, anything else will depress me. Need to go shopping, talk on the phone, go out with friends, or go do something active. A run around the block is my quickest fix. (I just sprint around the neighborhood, it's about 0.7 miles) and it never ceases to cheer me up.

Music is an "add on" thing. I can't just listen to music and feel better. It would be added on to the jog or the car ride or whatever.

If I'm very tired, the only option is to sleep.

Usually I'll try to rationalize the problem to the point where it's isn't a problem. But sleep gets the job done a lot faster.
