If you have a good rapport with newsagents and ask them really nicely they could give you magazines for free. The magazines they don't sell in the week/month, the main ones anyway have their cover torn off and returned for credit for next weeks/months stock and ends up in the bin. Since the value of magazines is having a cover, probably too much bother on their part, if random people tried that they'd refuse most likely.
Currently just Paste, which is a magazine about indie music/film/books. And I only subscribed because they were about to go out of business. All of my casual reading is done online; magazines just tend to sit around unread and collect dust. I do read a lot of books though.
