Not really. Some develop the skill as a way to gain self-knowledge. If you're good at something, there's no point in letting it go to waste. I feel you're regarding psychism as something supernatural. It's not. It's a skill, that anyone can pick up, and some will be better at it than others

It's supposed to be because of fluctuations in electromagnetic fields or something. It seems to me as though being "psychic" could involve a sense which humans don't typically use anymore - like how some animals can sense the magnetic poles or oncoming earthquakes.

Ok but wait, you have to first define psychism then, I guess. I was talking in the broad sense: crystal ball readers, mediums, tarot readers, astrologists etc..

Ah. Well, in this sense, there does seem to be a need for people to define themselves, to be able to give a shape to what will occur in order to lessen uncertainty. This accounts for the vagueness in tarot reading; it allows the questioner to understand the meanings of the cards in a way that applies to their particular life and situation. This can provide hope; alternately, it can confirm one's own semi-conscious thoughts.

If we're talking a real astrologer, rather than newspaper astrology or computerized readings... well, the accuracy can be downright freaky.

I'd love to continue this, but I think we're on the way of derailing this thread

I hate that a mob of people rushing into a Walmart on black Friday trampled a man to death.
I hate that people complained when they closed the store because of his death.
I hate when humans act like mindless cattle.

Whether it's real or not, millions of people are still willing to pay "psychics" for their services.

Certainly it's not an easy field to be successful in, so I'll credit people who are able to be successful at it.

Going to a psychic is a fun date idea. You could do something sly like ask the psychic if what she sees for the two of you.
