I don't wear baseball hats because it is really hot where I live and I don't need sweat collecting around my head in a hat band.

BUT - I wear a straw cowboy hat when I do yardwork or go to the beach, as it does spare my face UV exposure, and it breathes so sweat is not a problem like with a ball cap.

My favorite hat ever is probably a Dunce hat:

No, I mean the ones that would make you a hat by hand especially to fit your head.

Come to Montevideo or Buenos Aires.

From your avatar and user title, I think that you understand Spanish.

    I do.

That's as good a reason as any to finally get around to Buenos Aires. What do you think, Jennifer? Road trip?

So, you have never been there? I visit it quite often (I´m two hours away from it, by ferry)

Where are you from? I mean, which city?

Although, on second thought, my SO sometimes tells me to wear this:

I got it. Mantillas are from the colonial era.

Here (Argentina and Uruguay), you can see fedoras (typically worn by male tango dancers and singers), or gaucho hats (in the countryside). Both styles are fashion now, you can see gaucho hats here in the city too.
