Default Texting vs. talking on the phone

I mean in interpersonal relationships, like with friends and family, not for anything work or school related.

Which do you prefer and why?

edit: please include whether you prefer IM'ing/facebook/or emailing vs talking too. I'm most interested in why you prefer one over the other.

Texting, talking on the phone takes my attention away from my work or other things while a text is quicker.

I used to HATE texting but now I prefer it over talking on the phone, unless I'm catching up with a friend or something.

I prefer talking but do a bit of text. Text is less invasive, I prefer to talk though. Especially in Japanese, it is a hassle to text in Japanese.

Texting is a pain. It might be better if I had a phone with a keyboard and could type quickly on it. I think that if you can't say it in less than a minute on the phone, you should send me an email.

Infinitely prefer texting. Phone conversations are awkward and a giant time suck. I have never liked the phone, even when I was a teenager and was supposed to like it.

Also, texting can be a great medium for wit, much like Twitter.

I prefer texting with most friends and some family, but talking on the phone with significant others. There's more that tends to be expressed when i'm talking with a significant other than there is with anyone else. Verbally can just feel more intimate.

I hate texting. I am so slow at it. I prefer to talk on the phone, and even then, if the person wastes time on small talk I'll just say I'm running out of battery. I wish people could just say what they called for right away and not waste my time.

I can tell which people have keyboards on their phone in this thread and which ones don't.

Okay, what about IM'ing/facebook/emailing vs. talking... which do you prefer?

I prefer almost everything over talking. Talking is just taxing for me.

    This will not end well...
But it will at least be poetic, I suppose...

Hmm... But what if it does end well?
Then I suppose it will be a different sort of poetry, a preferable sort...
A sort I could become accustomed to...
