I'm definitely not defending it or its motives (or if it is fake, the general propaganda about a woman's place in those times). I just find it in the same vein as crappy advice given to women today in fluffy women's magazines. Maybe some buy into it, but a lot just find it entertaining.
Often a star was waiting for you to notice it. A wave rolled toward you out of the distant past, or as you walked under an open window, a violin yielded itself to your hearing. All this was mission. But could you accomplish it? (Rilke)

Yeah, what the hell are all of these married women doing here. get off the computer and go make your husband dinner! and then wash the dishes. and the clothes.
Is it that by its indefiniteness it shadows forth the heartless voids and immensities of the universe, and thus stabs us from behind with the thought of annihilation, when beholding the white depths of the milky way?

I didn't think you were defending it or anything, but I do think that the comparison to fluff women's mags today is not entirely accurate. I mean, they didn't have anywhere near the level of media saturation at that time as we do now, and there was far less specialization and niche marketing, so the impact of an image or ad would have been different. Sort of like how people got all worked up about the War of the Worlds radio program, and that was as late as 1938! It would make no sense to compare that [in terms of impact] to some shitty little sci fi show today.

If I have to believe that piece of crap, I'd be a shitty wife. But that doesn't matter, I'll never get married anyways! YAAAAY!!!
I was sitting outside the classroom waiting to go in, and I saw an airplane hit the tower. The TV was obviously on. I used to fly myself and I said, "There's one terrible pilot."

If you don't agree about my MBTI type, you can complain about it here. I've had plenty of people telling me I'm something else, in my reputation box. That's annoying.

    You'll love this joke:

Q: How many chauvinist pigs does it take to change a light bulb?

A: None, let the bitch cook in the dark. :yim_rolling_on_the_

I'm sure there is a manhater equivalent joke, my wife just hasn't heard it yet and told me about it.
