Also, feel free to discuss why you selected your answer! This is really what I'm looking for.
    Various answers:

    1. Because I am an INTP and only care about what is theoretically in the box and need no actual confirmation, I wouldn't need to open a box.

    2. I would ask the first box what the second box would say about the first box's honesty, then go from there.

    3. I'd open the box that doesn't have the tiger in it.

    4. Why on earth would the immediate power to "heal the world, stop pain, misery, death, disease, despair and anything else you can think of that is horrible - this box will create a perfect world" be a GOOD thing? Especially if we are not equipped to understand or live within such a world? (The machines would have to roll us back to green-hued 1999.)

    5. I texture and paint the boxes and use them as decorations in my bedroom.

I'd open the box on the right and I'd be prepared for whatever the outcome was.

I would open both boxes with the one key, which is possible because they are not actually magical.

The only reasonable option is to leave the boxes alone. You don't have the right to gamble with the fate of the universe, especially considering that you could consign the world to an eternity of Hellish consequences. Now if the odds were greater than 50/50, it might be a different story.

Since no one could impose such a right on you, you also do not lack it.

Perhaps, but I tend to operate under the presumption that I don't have a right to decide things for other people. And, entering into such a gamble would be doing just that.

So you would rather let someone else carry the awesome responsibility of saving or damning humanity?
(It's not as if you leave the boxes alone, no one else will touch them.)

This way you could choose to keep another human being from being blamed for hell being unleashed upon the world.

Sounds like the end of Dark Knight. I would hope that people would refrain from choosing. If I did refrain and someone else did not, the 50% odds would still be in place, yet I would not be the one responsible for saving or damning the world and that is enough for me. I cannot be also responsible for what someone else does or does not do.

Not if the boxes were destroyed unopened.
