Lack of musical talent is the likely case for bad sounds. Where my parents originated from, the singers there... uh, need a lot of practice. To the listener, there's a noticeable difference between someone who's trained their vocal cords and someone who hasn't. Most citizens in my parent's country have not taken singing to the same level as the western countries, so we're stuck with comparatively dull tunes.

    Holy crap, that is ugly
Wait, are those real Chinese people? They look sort of artificial to me Like some kind of parody.
Besides, they just repeat the same words over and over again in a very short pattern.

Yeah, I think you're right about the song being a parody -- after a quick Google search. ( ) And if you click for more information below the youtube video, it's also categorized under comedy.

Oh, another addition: The Mandarin Version - The Colors of The Wind (Pocahontas)

I don't speak or hear enough of Chinese, and I am therefore unable to recognize any differences amongst Cantonese, Mandarin, Taiwanese, etc. If I knew what specific Chinese form the OP's video is in, I can find more music for it.

Those first two were bad. Bad.
Kalach, I only watched the first vid, but they were quite awesome.
I kinda agree with Lethe, it's not the language, but lack of musical talent that makes certain languages sound bad when set to music. It may not be to my taste, but I know good music when I hear it. Lets be honest, english sounds really unmusical some times too.

Agreed. [The the writer will have to work harder to make the arrangement fit.]

IMO, certain languages have a distinctive sound (masculine, feminine, high, deep, and so on) they pull off better than the rest. Like how German has more opportunities for a grungy sound than French.

Unless I'm mistaken it's standard Mandarin plus "ah lala la la". And from the look of it, it's parody. Chinese sketch comedy. Henpecked girly husband, fat wife, good times.

Actually, I thought the OP was dialect the first time I listened, for the first, like, 15 seconds before turning it off, and that was irritating because there's some super-cool use of dialect out there to make art in China. I never tire of this one, for example:

Bellison uncorked a flood of horrible profanity, which, translated, meant, "This is extremely unusual."

And I thought Dutch was unsingable.
I was sitting outside the classroom waiting to go in, and I saw an airplane hit the tower. The TV was obviously on. I used to fly myself and I said, "There's one terrible pilot."
