Upon learning that our family's Vietnamese immigrant friends had just gotten work, a great-uncle said quite seriously, "Before you know it, they'll be wanting to drive". That was about 25 years ago though, when I was a pretty small little kid.

    This will not end well...
But it will at least be poetic, I suppose...

Hmm... But what if it does end well?
Then I suppose it will be a different sort of poetry, a preferable sort...
A sort I could become accustomed to...

Not the stupidest thing I've ever heard, but the only thing that comes to my groggy mind.

Man I've heard a lot. Here's one that comes to mind.

I'm in my high school English class and I've answered some question the teacher asked. I said something like, "We can't decide objectively in this case, because all of the criteria are subjective."

Right after this a girl blurts out, "My head hurts! He needs to stop using so many big words!"

I was laid off from my first real job after college. I had only been at the job a short time. Coincidentally, my mother found out that I had been skipping mass to hang out with my friend that lives across the street from the church.

Me: "Mom, I lost my job today."

Mom: "Maybe if you'd gone to church this wouldn't have happened."

During a geography class in final year of secondary school. For some reason, the discussion had veered towards Mecca:

Monica: (to me) When you guys go to Mecca, do you see your God?

*class bursts out laughing. Monica is perplexed*

Me: I'm not even going to answer that, Monica.

Wangari: (shaking her head) Yeah, seriously, don't.
