Default I Thought You Were A Dude!

Ever since I began frequenting forums (2005), people have thought I was a guy. I cannot tell you how many times I've heard this.

Why do they think this? Do most of you women get this?

What sort of thing makes you assume someone's a dude? How do the more obvious women write?

I've surprized a few people who knew me from arguing with them when they discovered that I am, indeed, female!

really... I would have thought that my typing style and love of emoticons might have signaled SOMETHING

you seem like a girl to me

^ She's just trying to make you feel better Dis. You sound like a man and you should embrace it.

    The saying goes something like:

"On the internet, men are men, women are men, and children are fbi agents."

A few years playing MMORPGs taught me to assume that everyone is a man until I have reason to believe otherwise.

Any ladies on this forum that sound like a dude, so I can get an idea of what "dudes" seem like?

--- Getting back to the original question,

I think it is mainly because you do not seem to have developed a large friend network and because you do not seem to be close to any other member (there might be people but not ones I know of). You have over 7,000 posts and has been around since April 2007. You seem to know the whole history of this forum obviously due to the membership period. But All that only deduces to the somewhat obvious assumption that you are a male.

A female who has been around for that long would be more personal/nel and would have a larger friend network. And would definitely be friendlier.

Believe me, you do not want to sound like her.

i've been in vent quite a few times and had someone say, "holy shit, i thought you were a guy!", so i'm probably thought of as one far more than i even realize.

i'm not sure why, in general, this is, but i think a part of it is that they must expect a lot of feely stuff and emoticons if you're a girl. or, be less apt to debate?

for the record though, i never thought you were a guy. but, then again, i became aware that you were a pretty female almost immediately via pics you posted.

I initially thought you were male because your avatar was of a man at the time I joined, not necessarily because anything you posted was particularly masculine.
