Default Do you give objects a gender?

I have come across people giving objects that they own a gender and/or name (that can indicate a gender). Perhaps mostly related to sentimentality and a feeling of connection towards an object. Is it common? Do you go about giving character and/or Identity to an objects?

No, I don't. Sometimes I do give them a name. For example: I call my parents's car Jackie, even though my parents never named it.
I was sitting outside the classroom waiting to go in, and I saw an airplane hit the tower. The TV was obviously on. I used to fly myself and I said, "There's one terrible pilot."

If you don't agree about my MBTI type, you can complain about it here. I've had plenty of people telling me I'm something else, in my reputation box. That's annoying.

Not a gender, but I sometimes assign human characteristics to things (that a computer is "pissed off", etc.)

It feels lame to me, so I don't say it, though I'd swear I've done it before.

In my native/first language most objects have a gender by the definition.

I do not. It just seems silly to me. That is one of the things I hate about my native language (German), that there are masculine, feminine, and neuter articles (instead of just "the") for nouns, AND masculine, feminine, neuter verb tenses.

Such efforts are "details", and go against the very fiber of my ESTP programming.

I have two computer adapter plugs I call Bob and Nigel.

    They are my freinds.

If I give an object a gender, it's female. Not sure why.

Yes, because in Italian objects have gender - we actually don't have the neutral gender.
