I'm going to the bathroom, but I'll be back in about 1-2 minutes.

    You're absolutely right. In general.

But imagine a purely hypothetical situation where one has at least a few PM threads with other members that by their nature could probably use some long and detailed responses--one of which might potentially involve coordinating an upcoming trip, one of which might be a thread where the two are in the middle of sharing some personal insight about similar situations.. you can plug in any number of purely hypothetical examples here.

In such a purely hypothetical situation, then, he might just want to make a post in this thread as a way of broadly announcing that he wouldn't be able to get to them for a good while, while also introducing some light fluffy socialization that's completely within the spirit of the first few posts--the very original intent--of the thread. He wouldn't face a problem by doing so unless he had some unexpected and unwarranted backlash.

I dunno. I'm clearly just speculating. But it's not too hard to imagine a purely hypothetical situation where a post about a member leaving for a while might be relevant to a thread about members leaving for a while.

Its a valid concern and even good manners in many circumstances. I, however think the reason your getting a bit hazed on this is because the "MIA thread" seems a bit of an ostentatious area to post this type of notice which in this context appears superfluous.

Perhaps separate "I am currently out of the office" type thread for general notice.

It would be cool to have a little "will return on ____ date" in the profile for people that come looking for you.

Probably a vBull hack out there for it.

To trace the remote in the immediate; the eternal in the ephemeral; the past in the present; the infinite in the finite; these are to me the springs of delight and beauty.” ~ H.P. Lovecraft
